The veins should be visible bilaterally Objective 2: The areolas should be round or oval and the small bumps of the Montgomery glands may be visible. The nipple normally protrudes but can sometimes be flat or inverted. The skin of the areola and nipple should be smooth and intact with no open areas, crushing, rash or drainage present. Objective 3: The skin of the axillae should be smooth and intact with no areas of discoloration, edema or rash. Clients who have a history of a mastectomy may have lymphedema due to the surgical procedure disrupting the normal pathways of lymph drainage from the breast area
